1925-2025

Many cultures in one society

On the 7th of June 1925, Stavanger was reestablished as an independent diocese, with its own bishop. This was celebrated by a mass of 15 000 people on the day of inauguration, in the presence of the King and a PA system.

The last hundred years has brought world wars, economic crises, the Cold War, the oil age and a pandemic. Technology has changed society, gender roles have changed, the welfare state has been established and we live parts of our lives on the net.

We come from different places and have different ways of life.

The church has also changed. It has representatives from different professions, many volunteers and its own democracy. There are both traditional churches with spires and towers, and low-rise churches with rooms for many kinds of activities. The churches are hosts to both services and activities during the week, with culture, music and meeting points for all ages.

The Cathedral is as alive as it was 900 years ago.

The beginning of its next 900 years is shaped by us. What experiences will we bring to the church in times to come?
