Statement from Church of Norway General Synod 16 April 2018: - In a suffering world, the answer lies not in distancing ourselves from suffering and building walls. The church cannot accept that!
The Church of Norway has represented the main expression of religious belief in Norway for a thousand years. It has belonged to the Evangelical Lutheran branch of the Christian church since the 16th century, and has been a state church since then until 2012. Around 73 per cent of Norway’s population are currently baptized members.
A large majority of the Synod members decided on April 11 that the Church of Norway (Evangelical Lutheran) will create a liturgy for church wedding of same-sex couples.
